The Zemun Jewish Cemetery has not been spared of anti-Semitic acts of violence. During the nineties of the last century and at the onset of the Millennia monuments and headstones in our graveyard were targeted by vandals in a number of instances. The attacks were primarily directed at the monuments; monuments were torn down, headstones smashed. Later, in 2001 the first defilement of monuments and stones by outspoken anti-Semitic slogans materialized. Even the monument dedicated to the members of the Jewish community massacred in Jasenovac and Stara Gradiska was debased. Aided by a number of professionals the Hevra Kadisha managed to repair and restore all damaged and vandalized monuments.
